The 101 Dumbest Business Moments
December 17th, 2007 by The Money Moose
Fortune has compiled quite an amusing list of the idiocy fun things that have happened in the business world. The top one is, of course, the various mishaps of China.
- During 2007, the Year of the Pig, Mattel is forced to recall almost 20 million items made in China because of lead paint on toy cars and tiny magnets that could be deadly if swallowed. Pet food makers recall more than 60 million cans of food laced with tainted melamine in wheat gluten from China. A huge underground distribution network for steroids, human growth hormones, and other bodybuilding drugs is traced to 37 companies in China.”
Check out the rest of the list for some truly funny stories.

Good. That’s what Mattel gets for opting for the absolute cheapest labor they could find to work on products for little children. Not a very smart move. Dirt cheap and ‘good’ quality do not mix.

This pretty much ruins my plans to start up a business making lead-flavour lollipops.
Unless I move to China, of course.

I read this article… I thought the one where Apple sent the little girl a letter telling her to ceast and desist sending ideas in was funny and sad.

Great blog!
If the economics don’t work, recycling efforts won’t either.
Http://LivePaths.com blogs about innovative entrepreneurs that make money selling recycled or reused items, provide green services or help us reduce our dependency on non renewable resources. These includes some very cool Green online ventures and investments opportunities.

The Mattel incident is a great example of what happens when quality control does not exist, or is not followed and itself tested.

Serves Mattel right. Did they seriously expect cheap labour to produce high quality? You’d think they’d be more careful. After all, most of their clients are children.
